Who publishes this
You should know who is behind a site that asks what a business charged you. Here is the whole picture, including the part most sites leave out.
The publisher
Minnesota Junk Fees is a service of Madgett Law, LLC, a Minnesota law firm. David J.S. Madgett, Minnesota Bar No. 390494, writes it and is responsible for its content. He is licensed to practice in Minnesota only.
It is not a government agency, is not affiliated with the Minnesota Attorney General or any other government office, and is not a legal aid or public interest legal services organization.
Why a law firm built it
Madgett Law, LLC is a Minnesota law firm. We are evaluating whether these fee practices can be challenged in court on behalf of the people who paid them. We are looking for Minnesota consumers who still have their documents.
We are not able to take every matter, and we will tell you if we cannot. Whether any of this applies to your situation depends on facts we have not seen.
There is no charge for sending us documents, and sending them does not make us your lawyers. What Madgett Law, LLC sells is legal representation — only if you ask for it, only if we agree to take your case, and on fee terms set out in a written agreement before any work starts.
What using this site does, and does not, do
| Reading the site | Sending us the form | |
|---|---|---|
| Does anything reach the firm? | No. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no cookies | Yes — that is what the form is for |
| Are we your lawyers? | No | No. We become your lawyers only if we both sign a written agreement |
| Is what you send protected? | There is nothing to protect — we never see it | Yes. The box at the top of the form says how, and what you agree to in return |
| Is this legal advice about your situation? | No. It is general information | No |
| Does it go to the government? | No | No. This is a private law firm, not a government agency |
| Does it cost anything? | No | No |
Why the site is built the way it is
- No business is named. The guides describe practices and quote statutes. Whether any of this applies to your situation depends on facts we have not seen.
- No software judges what you send. No field, screen, or line of code on this site rates your situation, what it might be worth, or how likely the firm is to take it. What you get back is an acknowledgment and a reference number, and it reads the same whatever you typed. A lawyer reads what comes in.
- The form asks for facts, not your story. Pick-lists, a date, and a few single lines. No upload, and no field for a Social Security, card, or account number — the server rejects a submission that contains one rather than storing it.
- No testimonials, no results, no urgency. You will not find a countdown, a star rating, or a settlement figure anywhere on this site.
- Sources are cited and dated, and checked twice. Every statement of law links to the statute it came from and says when it was last checked, and the citations are verified by someone other than the author before a guide publishes.
- Almost no third-party anything. No analytics vendor, no tag manager, no webfont, no pixel, no cookies. The one exception is the automated-submission check on the form, which is run by Cloudflare, the company that hosts the site; it loads on that one page and nowhere else.
